  firstly thanks to cofty & smiddy for the kind words on my " final post" .

  this post is simply to say over two months have passed since my last post and since then i have with my wife and son seen elton john live, visited stockholm, berlin, and most importantly appreciated " the natural beauty of my neighbourhood" with out even thinking about the watchtower.

  i have also attended 3 watford football matches with my son and made better relationships with my parents, discovered harvey's draught beer and made new friends in my local pub.

  Odd choice of words

  why is it that when a jw gives someone a magazine, they use the word "place" instead of "give"?

  as in "i placed a magazine with him".

  and why do regular door-to-door jws of no special rank refer to themselves as publishers?

  I believe it was mentioned during the ARC hearings that, in Watchtower parlance, Jehovah's Witnesses are found in many "lands."

  Query was put forth, why not say "countries"?

  in my work, i rely upon google for quick answers on definition (denotation), pronunciation (audio), etymology, shades of meaning (connotation), etc.. what i really mean is, do you use an actual unabridged websters, the one you get a hernia lifting?

  i ask because, last night, i was tired of fighting with my two ailing computers and decided to pull the big book off the shelf.

  it was great, hearkening back to olden times -- childhood -- when i read real books and periodicals and wrote unknown words into a notepad (the paper sort) and pored over old noah's offerings.. your thoughts?.

  Well, of course you do when you need to. In my work, I rely upon GOOGLE for quick answers on definition (denotation), pronunciation (audio), etymology, shades of meaning (connotation), etc.

  Jehovah's Limp Witnesses Pointed Me to JW.org When I Was Willing to Talk

  several months ago i approached a nice young couple who were standing by a jw literature stand in my local community.

  they were pleasant and polite but incredibly stilted when it came to answering my "innocent" questions about their beliefs.

  this was the occasion of jws featuring the article headlined "is religion dying?".

  When we were new at giving talks and going out in service, we were applauded for our little efforts, but encouraged -- and expected -- to improve. Giving talks from notes, not a MS, and offering a multi-scriptural "back call" (in our early days) were simply part of the plan.

  Unless, of course, you were an old brother or sister from another country who could only muster, "You take magazine, it good!"

  Jehovahs Witnesses and Marijuana

  i live in california where pot just became legal for recreational use very similar to alcohol.

  my wife who is a very active jw has had her medical card for cannabis for a couple of years now.

  and i know several in our congregations around our area who are using it medically.

  Continual rain, at long last, has ended another typically hot and dry summer, one that gave every appearance of extending far into a protracted Indian Summer. Yet, October was unusually wet. This Thanksgiving week promises daily rain.

  An unforeseen sadness is creeping gradually, insidiously into the fabric of my life. Dangling threads of a garment hanging loosely about my diminishing frame are unraveling more quickly than I can stitch them back together into whole cloth. Strange, this annual change in weather that I anticipate so eagerly always produces the same result upon my disposition.
  

  I love the cool and wet and dark . . . Nonetheless, I am saddened at the departure of sun and blue sky.
